The Chair's account
The forecast called for scattered showers, localized. I take a forecast seriously, so I went out to the yard with my umbrella at the appointed hour.
The shower was found on a tall wooden stool, in the form of a copper watering can tipped at an angle and pouring with great steadiness onto the exact spot where I stood. I held the umbrella straight and waited for conditions to improve.
They did not improve. A neighbor pointed out that one step to the left was perfectly dry. I explained that one does not walk away from weather. You stay where you are and let it pass, and this weather showed no interest in passing, so I stayed through the afternoon. Nobody has claimed the watering can. The umbrella performed admirably.
