The Chair's account
Every pea that leaves this department passes through my hands first. Most of them pass through in the sense that I hold on to them for a very long time.
This one sits on the left pan of the brass scale, opposite a counterweight I polish each Monday. I have weighed it eleven times. The results agree with one another to a degree I find suspicious, so I am weighing it a twelfth time while I write up a slight flat spot on the north side that may be nothing.
The report will run to forty pages with appendices. It will conclude that the pea is a pea and is acceptable, pending a second opinion from me next week. Approved peas go on to restaurants, where some of them meet the critic in Fine Dining. I like to think they arrive prepared.
A funny shirt for quality inspectors, auditors and lab techs, and for anyone who has been called a perfectionist and taken it as a compliment.
