The Chair's account
I was shown to a small round table near the window, which I accepted, and handed a menu with one item on it, which I also accepted.
The dish arrived on a wide white plate: a single green pea, centered. I took up my fork and my magnifying glass. A critic examines before he tastes, and I examined it for some time, noting the sheen and the confidence of its placement. (I happen to know this pea was passed by Quality Control, and it showed.)
The waiter came by twice to ask whether everything was all right. It was. The portion was appropriate for a pea. I ate it in four bites and asked him to send my compliments to the chef, along with several pages of notes. The bill was considerable, which I took as a sign of quality.
A funny foodie shirt for restaurant regulars, home cooks and anyone who has photographed a very small dinner on a very large plate. A good gift for the friend who reviews every meal.
