The Chair's account
The Committee met in closed session this afternoon in the brown leather armchair by the window. Only the chair attended.
The agenda was a novel of some four hundred pages, which I opened to the place I had left off. I read one paragraph with care. Then I read it again, because the afternoon light had made it longer. Around a quarter past two I closed one eye to rest it, and later the other one, to keep it company.
The minutes will say that the Committee deliberated in silence for ninety minutes. That is accurate. Anyone who walked through the room during that time and heard a small noise like a kettle starting should know it was a procedural sound and need not be reported.
A funny nap shirt for readers who drift off three pages in and anyone who treats the afternoon nap as a standing appointment. It's a good gift for a new retiree.
