The Chair's account
Every evening at seven I give a short recital from a plain wooden stool. The accordion was my grandfather's. It's small even for a frog, so I play it close, with my elbows in.
The repertoire is three songs long, and each one is a waltz. I've been asked whether I know anything faster. I know of faster songs. I simply don't believe in rushing a melody that has nowhere to be.
Requests are welcome and considered with care. So far every request has been for something other than a waltz, and after careful consideration I have played a waltz. My audience is a potted fern, small but loyal, and it has never once left before the end.
